What VA burial benefits are available?
The VA provides three core benefits for eligible veterans:
- Burial at a national cemetery at no cost — including opening/closing, grave marker, and perpetual care. For DFW families, the Dallas–Fort Worth National Cemetery is the closest option, approximately 25 miles southwest of Richardson.
- Burial allowance for non-service-connected deaths — up to approximately $978 (2026).
- Burial allowance for service-connected deaths — up to approximately $2,000+, plus a plot allowance.
Are these benefits available for cremation too?
Yes. The VA does not distinguish between cremation and burial for benefit eligibility. The DFW National Cemetery includes a columbarium for cremated remains at no cost to eligible veterans.
What documents are needed?
- DD-214 (discharge document) — proves eligibility
- Death certificate (we order this automatically)
- Itemized funeral bill
- Marriage certificate (for spouse benefits)
What if we can't find the DD-214?
The National Personnel Records Center can issue a replacement, typically within 10 business days. Vargas-London assists families with the request at no charge.
How does Vargas-London help veteran families?
We file VA Form 21P-530EZ on your behalf at no additional cost. We coordinate directly with the DFW National Cemetery for interment scheduling. We also offer a $100 veterans and first responders discount on all service packages.
