For South Asian families, cremation — not burial — is the tradition in almost every case. This directory covers the crematories, viewing rooms, and post-cremation options (asthi storage, scattering locations, columbaria) we coordinate with for Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist families across North Texas.
Crematories we partner with

Where families store or scatter asthi (cremated remains)
Local scattering locations in North Texas
- Lake Lewisville — Denton County; permits scattering from a boat at reasonable distance from shore. Popular for Hindu and Sikh families.
- Trinity River — flows through Dallas, Fort Worth, and Irving; Texas law permits scattering on uninhabited public land and private property. The Trinity is symbolically similar to Indian rivers for many families.
- Lake Ray Hubbard — Dallas/Rockwall County; scattering permitted from a boat at reasonable distance from shore.
- Gulf of Mexico — approximately 5 hours south; families occasionally travel for Gulf scattering, especially when an international trip to India is not feasible.
- Private land — with owner permission; many Hindu families scatter on the grounds of a family temple or a loved one's garden.
Columbaria for asthi storage
If the family plans an eventual trip to India but wants a local resting place in the interim, or permanent storage in a sacred place, these options serve South Asian families:
- DFW Hindu Temple columbarium inquiries — check with the temple for members-only columbarium options
- Restland Memorial Park — Columbarium — permanent niches for urn storage, open to all traditions
- Our facility — secure holding of the urn at no charge for as long as the family needs
Repatriation to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, or Nepal
Most Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist families plan a trip to scatter asthi in a sacred river in the country of origin — most commonly the Ganges at Varanasi, Haridwar, or Prayagraj (Sangam); for Sikh families, Kiratpur Sahib in Punjab. We provide:
- A travel-compliant urn (TSA-inspectable, biodegradable if desired)
- Certified death certificate translations (when required by destination country)
- TSA documentation for carry-on luggage (cremated remains are allowed in carry-on with proper paperwork)
- Secure storage for as long as you need before travel
- Coordination with a partner funeral home in India if family needs on-ground support
Families occasionally wait a year or more before making the trip. The urn remains secure and undisturbed in our facility at no charge for the duration.
Burial cemeteries for South Asian families who prefer burial
While cremation is the tradition, some South Asian families choose burial — particularly Christians of South Asian origin, Muslim families of South Asian origin (see our Muslim cemeteries directory), and families where the deceased specifically requested burial.
Commercial cemeteries serving these families include Restland Memorial Park, Ridgeview Memorial Park (Plano), Rest Haven Memorial Park, and Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery for eligible veterans.
Temples and gurdwaras where ceremonies take place
See our South Asian funeral services page for the full list of partner temples. Primary centers for pre-cremation ceremonies:
- DFW Hindu Temple (Irving) — darshan, havan, pandit coordination
- Ekta Mandir (Irving) — Gujarati community
- Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple (Frisco) — Tamil, Telugu, broader Hindu
- Guru Nanak Sikh Society (Plano) — ardas, transport to cremation
- Sikh Gurudwara Sahib (Richardson and other locations) — ardas, sehaj path, bhog
- DFW Jain Society (Richardson) — navkar mantra, pratikraman support
- Wat Dallas / Wat Phrathatplanoi — Buddhist chanting, monk coordination
Coordination included
We handle all crematory logistics, temple coordination, urn provision, scattering logistics (including boat charter referrals for lake scattering), and international documentation at no additional charge beyond the published service fee. Pandit, priest, and monk honoraria are paid directly by the family.
